Death of former Highland Councillor

Former Highland Councillor Mrs Rita Finlayson from Helmsdale has died after a long illness. She passed away on Sunday at the Lawson Memorial Hospital, Golspie. A celebration of Rita's life was held on Saturday 31 July 2010 from her home at Anvil House, Strathnaver Street, Helmsdale.

Rita served on the Council between 1999-2007, representing Brora/Helmsdale where she was at the centre of community activity, serving on the Community Council, the Rotary Club, Crossroads and helping co-ordinate voluntary groups. She took a particular interest in housing and social work matters.

Convener Sandy Park said: "Rita was a tremendous leader in her community and made a big contribution during her eight years on the Council. She will be sorely missed."
