Managing Rushes Without Chemicals, Caithness, Friday 6th November, 10-15 - 14.45 (First meeting). Event kindly supported by Caithness Wetlands and Wildlife Initiative.

A practical day workshop on controlling common rush without chemicals on farms with important habitat for wading birds.

Attendees will hear about non-chemical management options for rushes, look at a soil analysis and the current situation on the host farm, discuss priorities, help formulate a management plan for 2015-2016 and discuss which measures might suit your own situation.

Tips on achieving beneficial habitat in rush pastures and the role of agri-environmental schemes going forward will also be covered.

There will also be a short topper and aerator demonstration, weather permitting. A light lunch will be included, and there will be time to discuss ideas for your own farm. Booking is essential so that lunch & resource packs can be provided. Free of charge to farmers and land managers and £40.00 plus VAT to others.
