One-off transitional payment to GREAN to switch focus of community enterprise

28th June 2012

The Highland Council has agreed a one-off payment of £160,000 to Golspie Recycling Environmental Action Network to assist the social enterprise to switch its focus from household recycling to a vegetable box delivery scheme.

Over the years, the Council has provided GREAN with funding support to collect household recycling materials. However, with the Council's introduction of alternate weekly bin collections, this service has recently ended.

GREAN are now going to source and deliver vegetables to people's homes and the Council's transitional funding to the end of this financial year will assist with employment, training and marketing costs.

East Sutherland and Edderton Ward Councillors Graham Phillips and Deirdre MacKay paid tribute to the household recycling services provided by GREAN and wished them every success in diversifying into their new community enterprises.
