Police Surgeries In Sutherland

10th January 2014

Police in Sutherland look to improve channels of communication via local police surgeries in Brora and Lairg.

Commencing from Monday 13 January 2014, Police Scotland Highland and Islands Division will be holding weekly police surgeries in the Sutherland area. These will be held at alternating times between Lairg and Brora police station every Monday and Friday between 09:00 and 11:00 hours and then at 13:00 and 15:00 hours (see the following timetable for further information).

Building on the previous success of police surgeries in other areas of the Division, Area Commander Chief Inspector Garry Cameron said: "We have listened to feedback from local councillors and intend to run the surgeries to provide people with further opportunities to speak to local officers and raise any concerns.

"These surgeries are part of Police Scotland's continued commitment to keep local community engagement at the forefront of policing within the Sutherland policing area and I would welcome members of the public to make every use of these surgeries to address any issues or concerns they may have."

Alice Smith, Chair of Balintore and Hilton Community Council said: "There have been police surgeries running for just over two years in the Balintore and Hilton areas and they have proved to be a valuable tool for local folks who appreciate being able to have face-to-face conversations with their local community police officer.

"The community feel more empowered and positive about working in partnership with the police helping to reduce crime or antisocial behaviour where they live. We would encourage other communities to support these local police clinics and play their part in keeping the community safe."

Chief Inspector Cameron added: "I would also like to remind the public not to wait until these police surgery times if they wish to contact the police about an ongoing or more urgent matter. These surgeries are supplementary to our routine police officer presence within the community and residents can continue to contact police in the usual ways by visiting their local station, calling us on 101 or dialling 999 during times of an emergency."
