New Year Start For Work on A890 Stromeferry Bypass
2nd December 2007
Urgent remedial works to the rock faces on the south side of the A 890 Stromeferry Bypass, Wester Ross, will commence on 7 January, next year, and continue for an estimated eight weeks.
Due to the proximity of the road, traffic management will be necessary for the duration of the contract, which has been awarded to Skye Rope Access. The skilled work required includes scaling of the rock faces and removal of unstable material.
The road will be kept open at all times but it will be necessary to halt traffic for up to 20 minutes to allow the rock to be brought down and the road cleared of debris.
The railway line is also close to the road and the contractor will provide protection measures and Network Rail will provide supervision. Network Rail will have the ability to halt trains if debris inadvertently lands on the rail lands.
Every effort will be taken to minimise disruption to traffic flow but delays will unfortunately occur. Signing will be erected before Christmas warning of the works.
