£100,000 Boost To South Bonar Industrial Estate

19th December 2004

The Convener of The Highland Council, Councillor Alison Magee, has welcomed the award of a £100,000 grant from the Scottish Executive which will help open up land at the South Bonar Industrial Estate for local business development.
The grant will enable the Council to remediate land at the former petrol filling station at South Bonar, removing derelict storage tanks and associated infrastructure.

A flood assessment has already been carried out on the site and any new development will require to be protected.

The Council has allocated a further £36,000 for environmental improvements at South Bonar.

The Council is one of 19 in Scotland to benefit from the distribution of £10 million from the Executive to clean up contaminated land.

Councillor Magee said: "This is an important gateway site between Ardgay and Bonar Bridge, which has real potential to attract new businesses and community use. I am therefore absolutely delighted that our bid for funding has been successful."
