Unique Greenwood Training Comes To The North
18th March 2011
Traditional Woodsman's Coppice and Greenwood Skills Course
The first ever course to be held in Scotland that carries a nationally recognised qualification in traditional woodland skills (OCN level 2/SVQ2) will be held this April/May in a woodland setting at Helmsdale, Sutherland. This should be a 5day course, with date to be agreed with participants, depending on demand.
The aim of this innovative course is to provide grounding in traditional woodland management and greenwood working skills relating to coppicing. Skills learned will include cleaving, riving and ring-kiln charcoal making with an emphasis on achieving an understanding of woodland as a resource and its many benefits.
Cost should be around £3-400 (subsidised by NHFT depending on demand). Includes: training, provision of materials, use of tools, registration/certificate and a small snack at lunchtime. Accommodation costs not included but can be sourced as required.
If you are interested in this type of qualification but cannot manage full course, please enquire about separate day courses.
