Thinking Of Joining The Police? - Candidate Briefing Sessions to be held
12th August 2014
Police Scotland in the Highland and Islands will be running information sessions to assist people thinking of becoming a police officer or special constable with their applications.
The candidate briefing sessions are open to anyone who is interested in applying to become a police officer or special constable.
The sessions will last approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes and will cover the recruitment process and give advice on submitting a strong application.
Recruitment Inspector Irene Coyle explains "We are still recruiting both police officers and special constables as we have a number of vacancies in the local area.
"The process of becoming a police officer and special constable has a number of stages that candidates require to pass. If a candidate fails at any of the stages, they are welcome to re-apply and try again but they have to wait 6months to do so.
"In order to increase the chance of candidates getting through the various stages first time, we are holding candidate briefing sessions over the next few months.
"The sessions will explain the recruitment process, the skills and attributes we are looking for in prospective police officers/special constables and we will also give tips on how to highlight skills on the form and in interviews to maximise the chance of passing each stage."
The candidate briefing sessions will be held at Highland and Islands Divisional HQ, Old Perth Road in Inverness from 11.00am - 12.15pm on Saturday 30 August, Saturday 4 October and Saturday 1 November, again at 11.00am.
Candidates only need to attend one of the sessions. Places on the sessions are free but will be strictly limited so pre-registering a place is essential.
To book a place at a candidate briefing session, you can either call the recruitment team on 01224 306684 or e-mail policerecruitmentaberdeen[AT]scotland.pnn.police.uk.
Inspector Coyle adds "A career as a police officer or being a special constable can be immensely varied and rewarding. I would encourage anyone who is thinking of applying to look at the Police Scotland website and speak to current officers to find out more about the job and to book themselves onto one of our candidate briefing sessions before completing their application form."
