High Life Highland Launches Its Christmas Challenge Thumbnail for article : High Life Highland Launches Its Christmas Challenge
High Life Highland, established on the 1st October to deliver Community Learning and Leisure services on behalf of The Highland Council, launches its first Highland-wide community event this month.   The 6 week "MOVE IT TO LOSE IT" Christmas Challenge begins on the 14th November at all participating High Life Highland leisure centres.  
Possible Improvements To Lawson Memorial Hospital
North Highland Community Health Partnership - the part of NHS Highland covering Caithness and Sutherland - is looking at possible improvements to the way in which it uses the buildings at the Lawson Memorial Hospital in Golspie.   But Locality General Manager, Georgia Haire, stressed that any changes would not involve reducing the number of beds at the facility or any reduction in services.

Sharing Services at Lairg
A new partnership is being introduced in Lairg on Monday (17 October 2011) when the public will be able to source advice and information on police and Council matters from under the one roof.   The Highland Council is moving its Service Point from New Buildings, Main Street into the Northern Constabulary office on the same street.

Patients and staff are today (Thursday 30 June 2011 ) moving into the new hospital that has been built at Bonar Bridge in Sutherland at a cost of more than £8 million to replace the old Migdale Hospital, which is almost 150-years-old.   The new 22-bed hospital, which retains the Migdale name, is located in the centre of Bonar Bridge, close to the GP surgery at Cherry Grove and the Bradbury Centre, which is a day centre for older people.

Making It Easier To Pay Council Bills
The Highland Council is to consult with the public over plans to extend the number of ways the public can pay Council bills, such as Council Tax, Non-Domestic Rates and rent.   A bonus for the Council is that it can save at least £400,000 per year through changing the way it collects payments.

Offenders In Community Service Clean Up
Offenders subject to community service orders across the whole of Scotland will be busy collecting litter and cleaning up local areas this weekend to support the Keep Scotland Beautiful Spring Clean campaign.   In Highland 75 offenders who are being supervised by the Criminal Justice Service within The Highland Council's Social Work Service are scheduled to take part in the first national-wide Community Service clean up event.  
HMIe Inspection of Brora Primary School
An HMIe report was published yesterday (20 April 2010) for Brora Primary School as part of the inspectorate's ongoing strategy for evaluating the educational provision of local authorities.  The report is based on an inspection visit which was carried out in February 2010 and comments on the quality of education at the school.

Warning On Free Alarm Offers
Highland consumers are being 'cold called' at home with the promise of free household alarm systems.   However, the offer may sound too good to be true and Highland Council Trading Standards Service are warning householders to be on their guard.  
HMIe Report - Kinlochbervie High School
The caring and supportive environment for learning was one of the three particular strengths highlighted by Her Majesty's Inspectors of Education in a report published today on Kinlochbervie High School.   Inspectors reported that in most classes, pupils were motivated and very willing to learn and that relationships between teachers and pupils were positive.  
Follow-through HMIe Inspection of Lairg Primary School
As part of the inspectorate's ongoing strategy for evaluating the educational provision of local authorities, a report is issued today on the inspection by HMIe of the quality of education at Lairg Primary School.   The follow-through report is based on an inspection visit which was carried out in November 2009 and describes the improvements that have been made since the original inspection in 2008.

Golspie Office Offers New Services Under One Roof
A new public office has opened in Golspie, which offers a wide range of services under the one roof.   Olsen House is home to The Highland Council's Service Point and Money Advice Service as well as to staff of Northern Constabulary and the East Sutherland Citizens' Advice Bureau.

Success For Sutherland Primary School
Pupils from Brora Primary will end the term on a high as their school is the first in the North Highlands to be awarded the Scottish Football Association Level 1 Quality Mark in recognition of the high standards continuously maintained by the coaching team.   Janitor David Rose and his team of coaches at the 93 pupil school have been coaching football to children for a good number of years and successes have included winning the local schools competition, the Paynter Cup and reaching the last 8 in Scotland for the SFA Soccer 7s national competition.
