Phased reintroduction of family visiting and communal activities for residents.   Care home residents will be able to receive visitors outside from 3 July, provided their home meets strict criteria, with infection control measures remaining in place.

Additional Funding For Councils In Scotland

Council Leader Requests Meeting On Future Of Wick Airport
The Leader of The Highland Council has written to the Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity, Michael Matheson MSP, raising her deepest concerns over Eastern Airways decision to withdraw their Wick - Aberdeen Service.   The decision by Eastern Airways follows Loganair's earlier decision to withdraw its Wick-Edinburgh route, which now leaves Wick John O'Groats Airport with no commercial services operating.

Highland Council Chair Reacts To Education Back To School Announcement
Councillor John Finlayson, Chair of the Highland Council's Education Committee responded to the announcement today by John Swinney, Deputy First Minister on the return of education.   "Today's announcement by the Deputy First Minister that the planning assumption will now be for a full return to school for all pupils in August if it is safe to do so, is very welcome news for everyone and it reflects the aspirations that have been communicated to me over recent days by so many parents.

Council Leader Ready To Welcome Tourists Back To The Highlands Next Month
Highland Council Leader Margaret Davidson has said she is looking forward to welcoming tourists and visitors back to the Highlands when restrictions are expected to be lifted on 15 July.   The Scottish Government recently published guidance for Scotland's tourism and hospitality sector which would allow them to re-open safely on or after that date.

Enhanced safety for health and social care staff
Routine testing of workforce extended as more services resume.   Staff who work in specialist cancer services, or provide long-term care for the elderly, as well as staff working in residential mental health, will be offered weekly coronavirus (COVID-19) testing from 8 July.

Covid-19 Antibody Testing
Health boards have been advised by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to focus on using coronavirus (COVID-19) antibody tests to improve understanding of the virus and in the clinical management of patients.   The CMO Dr Gregor Smith has written to all NHS boards outlining that as there is currently insufficient clinical evidence showing the degree of protection antibodies give, or the duration of any protection, the only clinically safe option is to assume no meaningful immunity from a positive result until evidence shows otherwise.

A series of 9 short videos, have been created by The Highland Council Gaelic Team to assist non-Gaelic speaking parents who have young children entering Gaelic medium education.   The videos called "Spòrs agus Seinn Còmhla ri Ellen", "Fun and Sing along with Ellen", are each around 7 minutes long and cover the typical themes encountered during the average day at home with small children.
