Council approves community asset transfers in Sutherland and Wester Ross
Two ‘strong' community asset transfer requests have been given the go ahead from Councillors on The Highland Council's Communities and Place Committee. Unanimous support was given for the sale of land at South Bonar Industrial Estate at Bonar Bridge to Kyle of Sutherland Hub; and for the sale of Kinlochewe public toilets, picnic area and parking to Community Out West Trust - both at the value of £1 each.26/2/2020

Satellite Launch Site Plans
The latest generation of small communications satellites could be launched into Earth orbit from the northern Highlands of Scotland within the next two years. Development agency Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has submitted a planning application for a vertical launch site, Space Hub Sutherland, that it plans to construct on the A' Mhoine peninsula, Melness, near Tongue.6/2/2020

A hotel in a remote part of north west Sutherland has enhanced its online marketing and booking systems as part of wider efforts to move to year-round trade and employment. Kylesku Hotel was awarded up to £16,500 by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) towards the cost of developing its digital systems.20/1/2020
£180K Lottery Win For Neighbours In Embo
The new year is off to a winning start for four people in Embo who are celebrating landing a share of £180,000 after their postcode, IV25 3PS, was announced as a winner with People's Postcode Lottery on Saturday 18th January 2020. The Highland Council has once again been alerted to a Council Tax scam whereby scammers are cold calling and claiming that the resident is due a council tax refund or can have their Council Tax band reassessed upon payment of £150. Over £2 Million Invested In Highland and Moray Fishing Communities
Twenty-six projects have received a share of £900,000 through the Highland & Moray Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG) to boost the local economy and create jobs within the fishing, aquaculture and maritime industries, backing a total investment of over £2 million pounds. The funding has been awarded through the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund & Scottish Government to encourage community-led local development and enable localised decision making though Fisheries Local Action Groups (FLAGs).4/9/2019

Council to consult on Dornoch Common Good land
The Highland Council is today (17 July 2019) launching an 8 week Common Good consultation giving the Dornoch community until 11 September 2019 to respond to a proposal to dispose (by lease) of an area of Common Good land to East Sutherland Rescue Association (ESRA).
