Garage rent increase agreed in Sutherland

Garage rents for the Sutherland area will increase by 10% for 2024/25 as agreed at today's Area Committee.

Garage Rent for Council Tenants will increase from £7.58 to £8.34 per week. Meanwhile, Garage Rent for non-tenants will go up from £9.10 to £10.01 per week.

For Garage Sites, the weekly rent for Council Tenants will increase from £0.97 to £1.07. Garage Site Rent for Non-Tenants will also increase from £1.17 to £1.28.

As a result, total income will increase from £28,427.04 to £31,269.74.

Occupancy levels for garages and garage sites are high in the Sutherland area - with only 4 garages and 3 garage sites vacant.

Cllr Richard Gale, Chair of the Sutherland Area Committee said: "The decision made at today’s committee meeting to raise garage rents was taken so we can invest in the garages we have in the area. Some of our garages are in need of serious maintenance and care which this modest increase to weekly rent costs will help to finance."

The rent increase will commence from April 2024 and garage tenants will be notified by letter.
