Learning to become responsible citizens and helping to care for our local community is the theme for a series of events being undertaken by the children of Farr Primary School in Bettyhill, North Sutherland.

As a launch activity and also part of their Eco-schools focus, the P1-3 class with teacher Mrs Campbell and P4, 5 and 6 class with Mr Wylie undertook a village litter pick on Wednesday 23rd March 2016. They were given assistance by The Highland Councils Countryside Ranger Paul Castle.

Paul said: It is an important part of my work as a Ranger but also a pleasure to assist schools in taking responsibility for helping to clean their local area. Seeing the kids enthusiastically working to care for the village is heart-warming and certainly very welcome by everyone in the local community and visitors too.

The responsible citizen series of events will culminate in a beach clean at Farr Bay in the final week of the summer term.
