Burghfield House Training Hotel
In the Scottish Highlands And Islands an educational revolution is taking shape with the opening of our new training hotel in Dornoch – Burghfield House. Burghfield House was previously in private ownership and is now a traing facility for students. Visitors will be treated to the very highest standards in accommodation and service that Highland can offer in this sceneic area famous for whisky, golf and sporting activities.
The hotel has recently been refurbished to a very high standard and currently has six rooms available for visitors.
With this unique hotel college venture the primary consideration will be our students: your experience, your learning and your career prospects within the ever-changing environment of the Scottish hospitality and tourism industries. By undergoing training alongside the operation of a well run hotel our students have the advantage of learning by doing and at the same time learning in an environment that puts their needs alongside those of our customers. A student graduating from the Burghfield House training hotel will be a well rounded individual ready to take on the challenges of working at the highest level in the hospitality industry.
Students are able to gain practical experience of housekeeping, room booking, food preparation, restaurant operations and bar service. We have six high quality letting rooms, with a fully functioning restaurant serving afternoon teas and evening meals which is open to the public.
Funding for this exciting development was provided by a number of agencies including ERDF, HIE, North British Hotels Trust and Dornoch Common Good Fund.
Our existing centre at Ross House will remain fully operational. It will be dedicated to the delivery of the BA Golf Management degree – Scotland’s first ever golf management degree, which is now available to Honours level.
Yet another example of the vocational and academic opportunities highlighted by this transformational project which The North Highland College (an academic partner of UHI Millennium Institute)is bringing to the cathedral town of Dornoch on Sutherland's North Sea coast.
Burghfield House Hotel was established in 1947 by the Currie family.
The building dates back to 1900 and previous owners include Lord Rothermere, the newspaper magnate. The turreted country house includes a tower, where the Union Jack flies proud, to be seen as a landmark from anywhere in Dornoch guiding you back home to its comfortable environs.
