Draft Economic Recovery and Development Plan for The Highlands
The Highland Council has produced a proposed strategy for growth for the public and private sectors over the next five years to ensure Highland climbs out of recession with a stronger and more sustainable economic base and having the potential for growth. Following approval of the draft Plan at todays (Wednesday 16 January) Planning, Environment and Development Committee, it will now go out to key public and private sector partners for wider consultation before being adopted.10/1/2013
Contract Opportunities Now Open At Highland Council - Deadline 29th January
Opportunities for local contractors to renew existing applications or apply for construction works with Highland Council. The Highland Council is currently in the process of renewing and reviewing its Contractors Framework agreement, which may be used by Services within the Council for selecting contractors to carry out construction works covering reactive day to day repairs, general maintenance works and minor projects up to the value of £50,000.10/1/2013
Council Response To Pentland Firth Tidal Array Consultation
The Highland Council has decided to raise no objection to a consultation on proposals by MeyGen Limited to construct and operate a 86MW tidal array scheme in the inner sound of the Pentland Firth. The Council’s response to Marine Scotland reaffirms its support of renewable energy development in the Highlands and highlights the economic benefits that this can bring to the area.10/1/2013
Initiative Launched To Boost Digital Skills In Highlands And Islands
A new package of business IT support for organisations and individuals across the Highlands and Islands is now available. Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), in partnership with Business Gateway and with support from the Scottish Government, have launched an IT engagement programme, offering online IT guides and group workshops.7/1/2013

Launch of Council Community Challenge Fund
In a move aimed at encouraging community empowerment, The Highland Council today (Thursday 3rd January2013) launched its new Community Challenge Fund, which will provide £1 million each year of recurring spending for community projects exploring new ways of delivering services at a local level. Licensed premises fails recent test purchasing operation in Sutherland and Easter Ross
On Saturday 15 December 2012, Officers from Northern Constabulary completed a Test purchase operation within Off-Sales Licensed Premises within the Sutherland and Easter Ross areas, which as a result one premises failed. Test purchase operations involves the use of specially trained young persons, who under close supervision of Police Officers, enter licensed premises and attempt to purchase alcohol over the counter, whilst being under 18 years of age.18/12/2012

Review of Highland Polling Places and Stations
The Highland Council is reviewing polling places used by voters at the UK Parliamentary elections and also the boundaries of their polling districts. The Council is eager to ensure that its network of 218 polling places is viable and complies fully with disability legislation.19/11/2012
Events highlight benefits of Woodland Crofts
A series of events is underway to provide information and advice to anyone interested in woodland crofts. The Scottish Crofting Federation, the Community Woodlands Association and the Highlands Small Communities Housing Trust have joined forces to form the Woodland Crofts Partnership.

Bear Grylls Survival Academy launches in the Highlands 
Bear Grylls recently announced the launch of his first ever Bear Grylls Survival Academy in Sutherland in the Highlands. The six-day course will comprise of a combination of remote land/sea survival and adventure tasks that will culminate in a wilderness expedition designed to put the enrollees' new found skills to the ultimate test.

Week commencing 22nd October 2012 Energy: Scottish Government has announced the launch of the £103M Renewable Energy Investment Fund (REIF). Warm Homes For Winter
Up to 10,000 extra Scottish households will be given free help to cut their energy bills this winter, Nicola Sturgeon said today. The Deputy First Minister has allocated a further £6 million to install vital energy efficiency measures, such as loft and cavity insulation into Scottish homes.29/10/2012
