As a result of HIE's support, businesses in the area are set to see combined turnover rise by £22.4m, while international sales will grow by £661,000.   Figures compiled by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) show that businesses and communities supported by the agency in Caithness and Sutherland during last financial year are set to create or retain more than 50 jobs.  
Contract Awarded To Design Sutherland Spaceport
Architects have been appointed to design the spaceport that is being developed to launch small satellites from the Highlands.   Development agency Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) is leading the £17.5m Space Hub Sutherland project, including a £2.5m grant from the UK Space Agency (UKSA).

Two brothers are celebrating as the first spirit at their new micro distillery in Dornoch began to flow this month.   Phil and Simon Thompson's dream of opening their own distillery has become a reality as the Dornoch Distillery opened for business producing hand distilled gin, vodka, rum and whisky.

High speed fibre broadband is now available to order in Ardgay.   Fibre services are completely different to existing broadband services, and download speeds in the village will see a boost from a previous maximum of 8Mbps, to up to 76Mbps.  
Opening of community-owned sports pavilion celebrated with Shinty Sixes tournament
A new community-owned sports facility is being formally opened in Sutherland later this week.   The Scourie Sports Pavilion will be opened on Saturday 7 June by Lady Jane Grosvenor followed by the annual Far North Shinty Sixes competition.

One of the most significant contributions to the UK's climate change targets has moved a step closer as the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) today announced a *first-round pass grant of over £4million to restore Europe's largest intact expanse of blanket bog.   Flow to the Future is an ambitious plan, co-ordinated by the Peatlands Partnership, to restore seven square miles of globally important peatlands (blanket bog) in Caithness & Sutherland.  
Locals Invited To SNH Reception
Local people in and around Lairg in Sutherland are being invited along to an evening reception by Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) at Ferrycroft at 7.30 pm on Wednesday 3 March 2010.   SNH is the Scottish Government's advisor on the management, enjoyment, understanding and sustainable use of Scotland's wildlife, natural habitats and landscape.  
New staff team unveiled by SNH
A new team for Caithness has been created at Scottish Natural Heritage's North Highland Area Office in Golspie.   Tom Kellett is now in charge of the team of Area Officers following a promotion.  
SNH confirms total £35,000 funding for environmental projects in Sutherland
Environmental projects in Sutherland are set to benefit from a £20,000 SNH grant for the Sutherland Partnership which will oversee a new assistance fund.   The Sutherland Environmental Fund will operate over three years from spring 2009 with the themes of involvement and biodiversity.
