A9 dualling Perth to Inverness "Work to dual the A9 by 2025 is gathering pace with the award of two major contracts this week" said Transport Minister Keith Brown today. The Minister was speaking as he announced details of two consultants appointed to undertake preparatory work for dualling 80 miles of the A9 between Perth and Inverness.
Next Friday (5 October 2012), the new Sutherland District Partnership will meet in full for the first time as part of the new arrangements under the Planning for Integration (P4i) partnership between the NHS and The Highland Council. The Partnership of the Council and Health Board proposed the establishment of a series of District Partnerships.

Northern Constabulary are welcoming the results of the recent ACPOS day of action in comparison with results in an identical campaign, targeting mobile phone use and wearing of seatbelts, early last year, in the Highlands and Islands.
Miller Construction is extending an invitation to businesses of all construction disciplines to a Meet the Buyer event being held at Inverness Caledonian Thistle Football Club on Wednesday, 19th September. Miller is the preferred bidder on £50 million of work to be delivered over the next three years in Wick, Tain and Forres and is seeking local partners to deliver these projects and others when they arise.

Two meetings in a series of 12 public consultation events on The Highland Council's budget for 2012 - 2017 are being held in: the Norseman Hotel, Wick on Tuesday 11 September; and Durness Village Hall on Thursday 13 September, both starting at 6:30pm. The meetings are joint arrangements of the Council's Ward Forums for Thurso, Wick and Landward Caithness Wards and the North, West and Central Sutherland Wards.

MIGDALE Hospital in Bonar Bridge was officially opened by Michael Matheson, the Minister for Public Health on 22 August 2012. The hospital, which was built at a cost of more than £8 million and opened for patients in June 2011, replaced the old Migdale Hospital which was almost 150-years-old.

Councillor Deirdre Mackay who represents the East Sutherland and Edderton Ward has unanimously been elected as Chairman of the Caithness and Sutherland Area Committee. The committee met yesterday (Monday 20 August) for the first time at The Highland Council's Drummuie Offices in Golspie.
The University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) will boast record numbers of students and generate an estimated £22.5 million into the economy after the Scottish Government invested £5.5 million to fund 1,000 additional places. The extra places were created as part of the Scottish Government's commitment to ensure every 16 to 19 year old in Scotland has a place in learning or education.
Energy Minister Fergus Ewing has launched guidance designed to make planning applications for wind energy developments run more smoothly for developers, planning authorities and the communities affected. The guidance is a result of the GP Wind Project, a Scottish-Government led EU project which looked at the barriers to development of wind energy and ways of reconciling renewable energy objectives with environmental concerns, and actively involving communities in the planning process.
The new boat lift at Lochinver Harbour was pressed into service only hours after Harbours Staff of The Highland Council were trained in its use to rescue the damaged fishing vessel "Fortitude" UL 48 on Thursday evening (16 August 2012). The "Fortitude" had struck rocks and was taking water off Lochinver during the afternoon of the 16 August.
