Council To Purchase Houses From Owners Who Would Like To Help Make A Difference In Their Community

The Highland Council is piloting a new open market purchase scheme to buy directly from owners in a bid to bolster its housing stock to meet the need for additional affordable housing and provide new homes and futures for families, young and old in communities across the Highlands.   The Council is asking anyone considering selling a house to contact them and help make to make a difference to families who are in need of home.

Highland Digital Learning Hops Into 2022 With New Content

Highland's Online Primary School (HOPS) has launched for P4-P7 pupils to enhance children's learning through a weekly timetable of daily lessons with engaging content.  The resource is available on the already established Highland Schools Digital Hub.

Scottish Government Support For Library Projects

Over 30 public and school libraries across Scotland have been awarded Scottish Government funding to deliver a range of innovative projects including initiatives to tackle climate change and promote sustainable development.   The Public Library Improvement Fund and the School Library Improvement Fund are annual awards set up by the Scottish Government and administered by the Scottish Library and Information Council.

Sutherland community groups encouraged to apply for Place Based Investment funds

Community groups and organisations are being invited to apply for a share of £106,964 Place-Based Investment programme funding by The Highland Council's Sutherland Area Committee.   The deadline for Sutherland applications is 9am on 24 January 2022.

Highland Hospitality Businesses Invited To Apply For Funding

Hospitality businesses who lost bookings during the Christmas/New Year period are to secure grant support from the Scottish Government.  Business will receive either a grant of £4,500 or £6,800 depending on their rateable value.

Scientists Are A Step Closer To Finding Planets Like Earth

A UK-backed mission that will search for Earth-like planets has been given the green light to continue development after passing a critical milestone review.   The UK Space Agency has invested £25 million in innovative science for the European Space Agency mission, called Planetary Transits and Oscillations of stars (PLATO), ensuring UK scientists and engineers, led by the University of Warwick, will take part in all aspects of the mission.

Virgin Orbit Mission Success Brings Uk Satellite Launch One Step Closer

Satellite launch from Spaceport Cornwall is a step closer following Virgin Orbit's successful ‘Above the Clouds' mission in the US.   The UK Space Agency welcomes the news that Virgin Orbit has successfully completed its third mission from California on Thursday 13 January, launching several satellites into orbit from beneath the wing of a 747.

Pharmacies Adopt Government Scheme To Help Domestic Abuse Victims

The Home Office-backed scheme 'Ask for ANI' is now operating in over half of all UK pharmacies including independents and chains such as Boots and Superdrug.   On the first anniversary of its launch, the Home Secretary Priti Patel today hails the success of the innovative scheme which enables those at risk or suffering from domestic abuse to discreetly signal their need for help from the safety of their local pharmacy.

Highland Council Appeals To The Scottish Government To Reverse Budget Reductions

The Highland Council is calling on the Scottish Government to provide greater transparency in relation to its budget settlement for local government and is seeking further funding to address a range of significant external budget pressures.  The Council has asked the Government to examine the analysis of the budget settlement which shows less money will be flowing into the Highlands from Edinburgh.
